On its surface, Tentacular is a consistently charming, occasionally silly VR game about solving physics-based puzzles as an enormous tentacled creature. Those more literary readers will of course note that Tentacular is a coming-of-age story. Many readers of this colossally popular news page will remember their own sixteenth birthday, where, like our protagonist, they were informed of the fact that they were adopted and sent off to get a job. The scope of the world and our understanding of it shrinking and growing simultaneously, seeming both impossibly large and tragically small at the same time. Truly, a nigh-universal tale of leaving childhood behind and finding ourselves in adulthood.
For those of you who prefer the movie to the book, your own populist tastes will be catered to here as well. Tentacular is jam-packed with challenges to test your mental and manual acuity as you guide the prodigiously-armed protagonist through both the main story and side missions. While showcasing your prowess in these carefully designed scenarios, you'll be unlocking objects for use in the sandbox mode, where you can further demonstrate your Goldbergian genius.
Tentacular is available on Meta Quest 2, Steam VR, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR 2.
